Health Award for Epilepsy 2007

A health award which recognises the efforts of individuals and teams trying to develop better
 healthcare for the half a million people with epilepsy in the UK and Ireland.
The BEST Award aims to raise awareness of the condition and to encourage similar
epilepsy service improvements within the NHS and Health Service Executive in Ireland.
We are very pleased to announce the winner of the JEC BEST Award 2007
The Individual category has been awarded to Sandra Howard, founder of the Sheffield-based
charity FABLE which was launched in 1995, initially to raise money for the then
revolutionary new surgical procedure for the treatment of epilepsy - Vagus Nerve Stimulation
(VNS) - for her 16 year old son. Gareth went on to become only the second person in the UK
 to undergo the procedure an FABLE went on to provide help, information and support through
 their National Patient Support Network and a continuing range of epilepsy awareness events.
The awards will be presented at a Ceremony in the
House of Lords on 27th November, 2007.
